Music Heals the Soul

How many people have you known in your lifetime that said music just speaks to them? Too many to count? None? Well, I am one of those people. Music speaks to me in so many ways.

Growing up, I always found myself in any situation with some kind of music playing. I would listen to music to help me focus on my school work, in dark times, in happy times, and now to help my kids learn to love music as well. Music is therapy. Music is beautiful.

As I grew up, my parents hated that I would always play music, especially when I did homework. They saw music as a distraction while I was supposed to be doing something important. They never really understood, or believed me. Yes, people will get distracted when their favorite song comes on. They will stop what they are doing and start singing along. I will not lie, I found myself in those moments many times. I DID find myself also more focused with music than without. So, if your kids are playing music and say that it helps them focus more, listen…they may very well be telling the truth.

I know many people have had very dark times in their lives, many much worse than my own. However, I found that listening to my favorite bands would help me cope with the pains I would feel, the dark thoughts that would roll around in my head, and it became a temporary escape for me to relax for a little bit of time. One of my favorites that was my savior, is Jewel. Her music inspired me in many ways, and cheered me up on so many occasions. She came out with a children’s CD at just the right time when my daughter was born, and my daughter grew to love her music as well. Some people have heavier music to help cope with their mental madness. And others will need more peaceful, tranquil music. Some people even NEED music to help them sleep peacefully.

There are so many inspirational songs out there that really can help a person think outside of the box. Songs may even inspire people to write their own, or step out of his or her comfort zones and try to accomplish better goals. “Uprising” by the band called Muse has a great message that will definitely help people in today’s society dealing with the struggles of Black Lives Matter, Body Image Bashing, LGBT movement, and even religious stances.

So, are you having a bad day? Take some time for yourself and just sit any old place, throw in some ear buds and listen to your favorite music. Or, take the music with you wherever you are going. I LOVE to clean in a house full of loud music!

Muse: “Uprising” Lyrics

Paranoia is in bloom,
The PR transmissions will resume
They’ll try to push drugs that keep us all dumbed down
And hope that we will never see the truth around
(so come on)
Another promise, another seed
Another packaged lie to keep us trapped in greed
And all the green belts wrapped around our minds
And endless red tape to keep the truth confined
(so come on)

CHORUS: They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious
(so come on)

Interchanging mind control
Come, let the revolution take its toll
If you could flick the switch and open your third eye
You’d see that we should never be afraid to die
(so come on)

Rise up and take the power back
It’s time the fat cats had a heart attack
You know that their time’s coming to an end
We have to unify and watch our flag ascend
(so come on)

CHORUS:

Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey

CHORUS:

Hey, hey, hey, hey
