Just a quick thought for the night…<\/p>\n
Tonight, during our little family movie night, we decided to watch the new “Jem and the Holograms” movie. I love movies like that; where there are positive messages teaching children of all ages to be happy with who they are. Society has such a dominant view over what is artificial and superficial, causing so many children, mostly girls, to not feel comfortable in their own skin.<\/p>\n
Every one of our children need to know that he or she is unique, special, and wonderful. I also wanted to share that my daughter is a part of a Tae Kwon Do program that teaches girls to have a positive perception of themselves. In one of the special classes, the Owner conducted an experiment. She asked each participant what they thought was considered beautiful. Many answers were the typical, “beautiful hair, dresses, makeup, thin, athletic, etc.” That is not necessarily beautiful; especially when a “beautiful” person is so mean or negative on the inside. Beauty is within AND on the outside. Anyone can be attractive. However, what one person may consider, not so attractive, it is their own perception…but they should never call them ugly, because someone else will see them as attractive.<\/p>\n
Beauty means helping people in need, trying to do anything in their power to make the world a better place, being positive and confident in who they are, being real and truthful, treating others with kindness even when that person was mean to them. These are the messages that our children really need to hear. Maybe THEN our world WILL change for the better.<\/p>\n
